Fathers day

I wanted to share a great fathers day idea with you.  A hanging scrapbook of sorts.
Get a large frame and take out the cardboard.  Use the cardboard as a guide and glue a background to it.  You can add borders and any designs you want with the paper.  Have your child draw a picture of dad on a piece of scrapbooking paper.
Use a picture of dad and the child or just the child for the central piece.  Work just as if you were making a giant scrapbook page.  Add embellishments, mementos, anything you can think of.  Be sure to add the picture of dad that your child draws somewhere in the layout!
Wrap up and present to dad on his big day.  This is a gift that will be much more cherished than the traditional tie and it can be displayed anywhere in your home!

The Angel Company

The Angel Company is one of my very favorite companies.
The Angel Company sells stamping supplies for stamping, scrapbooking, crafts, making cards, etc.  The think I love about their stamps is the format they make them in.
When you buy the stamps you get a sheet of rubber stamps that are uncut typically.  They also have others but this is my very favorite.   After you cut them out you use a special tacky glue and mount the stamps on an acrylic block.  Whenever you want to use a different stamp just peel the one you are done with off the block and mount the new one on the block.  The tacky glue lasts a long time on the rubber stamps so this is always easy.
Buying the stamps unmounted and uncut also means you get a great deal!
I have done a couple of catalog parties with them and while Im talking about that I want to mention that the catalog by itself is a worthy investment!  There are some great pictures of different layouts and designs.  Anyway even with my only doing the catalog parties I got a lot of great incentives included in my order!  The reps I have met that are with this company are absolutely fantastic and the parties are a lot of fun.
If you use stamps in your scrapbooks you really need to take a look at this company.  I don't know this rep personally but I liked her website so that is where I am sending you!  http://bis.midco.net/tietzfamily/tac.html

Graduation!

Yea!!!  Kirstin is graduating!  Of course this is great news but it also means a lot more work!  I will have to finally get these soda cans and papers cleared off my desk, clean the house, etc. etc.  The good news is I will finally have a scrapbooking room!
Right now my scrapbooking space is in the garage on about 4 different desks and tables.  Since we also use the garage as a space for storage, an extra bedroom AND my darkroom, it is kind of cramped.
I am so excited to get everything moved into a room where I won't have to stumble over everything we own to get to.
I think having an actual space to sit down and work on scrapbook pages will make a huge difference in my motivation to get busy!
Whenever the urge hits I can just run in the back, sit down and get to work.  I am SO excited!

Taking pictures

Once I started scrapbooking I realized I was also taking pictures in a whole new way.  I have always loved photography and I have always been pretty darn good at it.   I used to take a picture by putting a lot of thought into the whole composition.  Now though I find that I look at other things.  I now find that I have pictures of trees and signs and other weird things.  All just for the sake of adding to the memories in my scrapbooks.  Look at the snow cone layout in a previous post.  I didn't just take a picture of Katie with her snow cone, I also took a picture of just the snow cone itself.  All because I knew how I wanted to use it in my pages.  It is just very different and weird.    I remember not long ago seeing a layout of a kid getting his first haircut.  There was a picture of the welcome mat at the salon with the name embedded on it!  In the past I would have never dreamed of taking a picture of a welcome mat.. When you are taking pictures, take a look around you at everything you see.  What items and things will add to your layout?  Take a picture!

Stacies Scraps

This is a scrapbooking website that I ran across awhile back and just love.  It deals mostly with digital scrapbooking which I am just learning about and which looks like a lot of fun!
What is special about this blog is that Stacie offers a free downloadable packet of scrapbooking materials every month!  She posts part of the packet throughout the month so you always have something new to work with.  Take a look at this months Sea Mist.. It is absolutely beautiful and I love it!   Thanks Stacie!

Live flower technique

This is a technique I learned from my daughter who doesn't scrapbook.  I loved it so much I want to use it in my next layouts.  She used a pansy but you can use any pretty flower.  She layed the flower between two sheets of watercolor paper and then pounded away with a hammer.  The resulting picture is a beautiful flower and you can even see the stem and leaves.  The color is actually amazingly vibrant.  This picture doesn't do it justice!

SnowCone layout

This one is kind of hard to see but it is one of my favorites.  I made Katie "snow" cones last winter by putting actual snow into an ice cream cone.  I used a close up of the snow cone right under the word cone.  This page was easy to make, I tore a piece of paper across the top and mounted it over dark blue paper.  After the pictures were placed on the page I used a torn piece of vellum for the left side border (the vellum goes over the picture).  I added some ribbon and a snowflake eyelet along the edge of the vellum.

Scrapping

I wish I could show you some of my first scrapbook pages.  They were hilarious!  I didn't have any idea of what I was doing or how to do it.  I just knew it looked like a lot of fun.
Imagine knowing nothing about scrapbooking and someone tells you to start cutting up your pictures!  I wasn't about to cut up my pictures, heck I didn't even want to put glue on them for fear they would be ruined.
A couple of years later I made a second attempt at scrapbooking and found out that cutting up my pictures was actually a lot of fun.  It was like a release of some sort.  I cut and pasted and found more and more ways to be creative.  Now of course, I am addicted!   I can't wait to share some of my layouts and ideas with all of you!
